Fresno State legacy recruits on the radar

Fresno State has commitments from three recruits who are sons of former Bulldogs, or "legacy recruits." Others could be in the mix to follow in their fathers' footsteps also.

Three-star running back Ronnie Rivers is the son of Bulldog legend Ron Rivers. Ronnie is a highly regarded recruit, but it wasn't until head coach Jeff Tedford's arrival until Fresno State.

“Coach Tedford is definitely the one who influenced my decision,” Rivers told BarkBoard.com. “Even before he was named head coach my dad used to talk about how great of a coach he is. My family was ecstatic, especially my dad, when I told them I wanted to commit to Fresno State.”

Clovis West offensive lineman Clive Truschel is the son of former Bulldog Jeff Truschel, who played for the Bulldogs in the late 1980's and was an All-Big West performer. Clive is expected to be one of the many names to sign with the Bulldogs on National Signing Day.

Clovis North quarterback Brent Bailey is the son of former Bulldog quarterback Jeff Bailey. Brent recently committed to a preferred walk-on offer by Fresno State.

“My dad going there was a big push as well," Brent told BarkBoard.com. "The nut doesn’t fall too far from the tree. He’s always had huge respect for Tedford and I think he’s excited for me to go there and be a Bulldog as well. I think it’ll be as I imagined as a kid. I remember going to the games when I was really young and seeing it packed, seeing the Bulldogs walk into the stadium. Hopefully it’s like that.”

Brent is not Jeff's only son with college football aspirations. Carson Bailey is a sophomore at Clovis North High School, looking to be the next from the family to move on to the next level.

Clovis North linebacker Erick Kroll Jr. is the son of former Fresno State running back Erick Kroll Sr. who played for the Bulldogs in the early 1990's. Erick Kroll Jr. has expressed interest in playing at his father's alma mater, but for now is fielding interest from New Mexico State, Cincinnati and Northern Colorado.

“If [Fresno] State calls, I will commit right on the spot - I’m saying this right now,” Kroll Jr. said told BarkBoard.com last month. “I would be truly blessed. I could bring back my dad’s No. 42, it would be awesome for him to see me play and truly make something out of that career... A lot of people I know who really taught me the culture and how Fresno State is. I’m highly interested in them.

“I’m not saying I have a top choice or anything, but I’d be truly blessed by whoever wants me in their program.”

Said his father last month, "Both me and my wife graduated from Fresno State. I got put on scholarship after a year and a half there. It would be a big deal. Part of the whole thing with him wearing No. 42 is it’s the number I wore at State. I’m hoping he’ll get the chance of wearing it there as well. They really helped me out and I’m hoping they’ll do the same thing for him and we’re right around the corner. It would be a really good thing for him to stay in town.

"I’m hoping with this new (staff) coming in that it will be a little easier for some of the ex-Bulldog dads who have sons that are coming out to get a good look to stay in town."

Clovis High School linebacker Trevor Hartmann is the son of former Bulldog Russ Hartman. Clovis High has also become a recent pipeline of walk-on talent with Josh Hokit standing out last season, along with redshirt freshman Tanner Rice and incomming preferred walk-on Clayton Alexander.

http://www.scout.com/college/fresno-state/story/1712638-bulldogs-show-in...Rodney Wright III was a toddler when his father was shattering receiving records at Bulldog Stadium with Patt Hill coaching him up and David Carr slinging the ball in his direction. The elder Wright is revered among Bulldog fans for hauling in 91 catches for 1,331 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns during the 11-3 season in 2001 - the year that saw Fresno State grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

“He’s been training me and motivating me. That’s my man,” Wright III previously told BarkBoard.com about his father. “We do a lot of speed work and hip work. We work on my power, legs, quickness, everything.”

Said Wright II about his son, “He’s fast, he’s tough and he wants the ball in his hands. I do keep telling him that he needs to play a little lower because he’s not the biggest guy and the low man wins. If he keeps working hard in practice, I think he can be special... He’s a very discipline kid, he works very hard and he’s young. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow.”

Fresno State running back great Michael Pittman has already sent one son, Michael, onto play at USC. Although the next potential star in the family is only a sophomore, the new coaching staff has already extended an offer to sophomore athlete Mycah Pittman.

“(My dad) woke me up at 6 a.m. and he said ‘Guess who offered you?!’” Mycah Pittman told Scout. “It was Fresno State. It was really cool... He was wanting me to get a Fresno State offer really bad."

Mycah and his father plan on taking an unofficial visit to campus this offseason.

“I’m considering now. Any college I’m actually open to, but the school that shows me the most love is going to be in my top five.”
