The new Fresno State coaching staff took over a football team with the knowledge that the offensive line needed some serious upgrades in order to be competitive once again. They addressed some of those issues with JUCO transfers and some high school recruits in the off season. Now the Bulldogs look to keep momentum going for the foreseeable future. One recruit that could be one of those pieces is 2019 Capital Christian O-Lineman Evan Bennett.
At 6-foot-2 and 300-lbs Bennett already has the size and ability to play at the collegiate level going into his junior year in high school. Evan Bennett recently took a visit to Fresno State on April 1 during a Saturday spring practice at Bulldog Stadium with his family.
“They had really good energy," Bennett said. "I like how the coaches were getting all the players hyped up, I loved how the players were getting hyped up. There was a great intensity. It looked like a really ran spring practice.”
After the practice Bennett and his family got some time to spend with the coaching staff which resulted in Bennett receiving his first Division I scholarship offer from the Bulldogs. Other than the Bulldogs, Bennett has received interest from Pac 12 schools such as Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, UCLA , and USC. Even though it’s early and Bennett is gaining interest with other programs, he did come away from his recent Fresno State visit very impressed.
“They have a very good vibe of being brothers and being a family. Where I feel like other colleges are all about the hype of the type of equipment they have and I felt like Fresno State wasn’t like that. That they were really about their athletes and that they were there for them and that’s what made Fresno stand out.”
FRESNO STATE IMPACT:
Even though it’s early in Evan Bennett’s recruiting process, the Bulldogs have made the first move in extending the offer which should at least give them the inside track for the moment in his recruitment. Even though Bennett is going into his junior year, he’s probably one of the strongest offensive lineman recruits in quite some time. Should the Bulldogs land Bennett he could see himself in the Bulldogs' starting lineup sooner rather than later.
