"Cal Poly, Nevada, Sac State, and Fresno State are recruiting me," Johnson said. "Only Fresno State has stayed in touch. They've been recruiting me for about two months. I visit tomorrow. I'd say they're my favorite."
In 2006, Fresno State signed little known A.J. Jefferson from Bakersfield West High School. The only other school that showed interest in Jefferson was Cal Poly. Jefferson started as a true freshman. Moreover, as a sophomore was named First Team All-America KR by Collegefootballnews.com.
Johnson rushed for 907 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2007. He also added 25 receptions for 318 yards with three touchdowns, and added another touchdown off a kick return vs. Shafter (Calif.). He earned First Team All-Southeast Yosemite League honors as a utility player.
"[Fresno State] is recruiting me as a slot receiver," Johnson said. "I like running the ball, but I'll play wherever they want me to."
He says Bulldog TE Coach Jeff Grady has been recruiting him mostly.
"Yeah, [Coach Grady] has been talking to me about grayshirting," Johnson said. "I'd probably do that if they offered. I'd grayshirt. I'm ready to commit. If I don't get that offer I'd probably go up to Fresno City College. I don't have any other trips scheduled."
Johnson says he watched part of the Bulldogs' 40-28 Humanitarian Bowl win Georgia Tech. He likes Fresno's offense and the position where he might fit in. He says he runs a 4.6 forty, and a 185 max bench.
He reports an overall GPA of 2.8. Johnson says he is retaking his SAT to improve his score.
