‘Dogs Add Another Madison Product

San Diego (Calif.) Madison quarterback Lester Fontenette is one of the rising prospects in the West. Despite holding multiple offers, the talented athlete decided to end his recruitment and verbally commit to Fresno State, where he will play along side his former high school teammate Robbie Rouse…

San Diego (Calif.) Madison has been good to Fresno. Impact true frosh running back Robbie Rouse signed with Fresno State in February. And last week, his former teammate, Lester Fontenette (6-2, 210), verbally committed to the Bulldogs. "I want to say that he committed last Tuesday which would be October 13th," said Madison head coach Rick Jackson. "Since, he has received an offer from Washington, which brings his total to eight or nine offers."

Like Rouse, Fontenette stood out during the annual Fresno State team camp. The athletic quarterback is explosive showing the ability to score at any time he touches the football.

"Lester is extremely athletic and very versatile," said Jackson. "He is a good leader on the field, leads by example. He is a converted quarterback from running back."

The last high school running back turned quarterback Fresno State signed has made the transition to the next level quite well. Ryan Mathews led the nation in rushing as a senior quarterback for Bakersfield (Calif.) West in 2006 before signing with the Bulldogs in February 2007. Mathews currently leads the NCAA in rushing with 974 yards through six games.

Fontenette comes to Fresno State as an athlete with the ability to play both sides of the ball. "He is also a natural linebacker," added Jackson. "He will be very successful at the next level."
