Mathews Leads 'Dogs to 34-3 Win

Ryan Mathews rushed 25 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

New Mexico State took an early 3-0 lead into the second quarter. But a Lorne Bell interception return 17 yards for a touchdown started a run of 34 unanswered points for Fresno State.

Chastin West added an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown on a night the Bulldog offense struggled for the first three quarters.

Fresno State finished with 410 yards of total offense. However, the nation's third ranked rushing offense was out-gained 242-189 by the Aggies.

Game Notes

  • Ryan Mathews rushed for over 100 yards for the seventh consecutive game. His 1,131 yards rushing leads the nation. He became the third back to top 1,000 yards rushing this season.

  • Chastin West's punt return for a touchdown is the his third return for a touchdown in his career. He returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown against San Jose State last season and a 93-yard kickoff return versus Boise State in 2006.

  • Lorne Bell's interception return for a touchdown are both his first pick and touchdown of his career.

  • Kenny Wiggins blocked a field goal in the second quarter. It is his first career blocked kick.
