All state athlete John Wesley Kennedy (Savannah, Ga.) saw his teammate Chris Harris Jr. commit and decided on Thursday night to join in on the fun. The do it all athlete ended his recruitment by committing to the Georgia Southern Eagles.
The senior athlete will sport #12 for the Eagles - Kennedy was an intregal part of the Benedictine offensive attack that led to a State Championship this season in the Georgia Dome.
For Kennedy, family vibe was what set GS above the rest, "I felt an instant connection - my host was Myles was awesome (Myles Campbell) and just the entire organization Coach Lunsford, Summers, everyone," Kennedy told ESI.
Kennedy picked Georgia Southern offer 15 other offers including Southern Miss, Tulane, and Sunbelt rivals Georgia State and App St,
"It came down to Georgia Southern and Southern Miss - I just got off a visit to Southern Miss and the coaches were actually supposed to come see my Thursday but I went ahead and told them I was going to commit," Kennedy said. While that might not have made the Golden Eagle coaches happy the fact Kennedy decided to shut down his recruitment was music to GS coaching staffs ears - "Oh they were excited for sure and I am as well - just a great opportunity and I am excited and ready to get to work," Kennedy mentioned.
While Kennedy has the skill set to line up all over the field GS has a few things in mind for him - "They want me as a slot receiver like Myles, and then special teams on kick and punt return," Kennedy said.
With his decision now in the past, Kennedy like his former and future teammate Harris did not rule out a trip up I-16 from Savannah to Statesboro to help recruit, "I am thinking about it - the OC (Coach Bryan Cook) has been talking with me about coming up - I know they have some QBs on campus so we will see," Kennedy said.
But for now the talented playmaker is going to enjoy his time before National Signing Day and counting down the days to becoming an Eagle - he also had a shout out he wanted to give - "Shout out to mom and dad" .. With talent and a family first approach something tells us you will be hearing a whole lot of Wesley Kennedy in the Boro over the next 4 years.
