After more than a year's worth of anticipation, the wait is finally over. At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, the Georgia State Athletic Department officially became a full member of the Sun Belt Conference and will now compete for championships in 14 league-sponsored sports starting this fall.

The schedule for the Georgia State Panthers football team in its first year under head coach Trent Miles will include seven home games at the Georgia Dome and five road games. As this will also be GSU's inaugural season in the Football Bowl Subdivision and first year in the Sun Belt Conference, it will be their first 12-game slate, which will feature seven conference games.

As Georgia State Football wrapped-up Coach Curry's final season, ending the young program's disappointing stint in FCS, the Men's Basketball team enjoyed some time in the national spotlight via a trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on the Duke Blue Devils.

Last Saturday, coming off their first win of the season, the Panthers once again fell victim to turnovers and inconsistent play as Villanova claimed a 49-24 win over host Georgia State on Homecoming at the Georgia Dome. In the process, they lost running back Donald Russell for the season as they prepare to take on two top-10 opponents in the next two weeks.

Throughout this season, Georgia State fans have wanted to see the Panthers establish more of a run game, with Donald Russell leading the way. However, as the Panthers have been plagued with problems, most notably turnovers, than have caused them to get behind early in games, the coaching staff has felt the need to rely on the play of the Quarterbacks, which has been less than stellar.

In the first-ever conference game for Georgia State football, the Panthers made some progress, but failed to overcome the problems that have led them to an 0-4 start and lost to the Richmond Spiders 35-14.

Georgia State will kick-off season three with a matchup against the South Carolina State Bulldogs tonight at 7:30 at the Georgia Dome. The game will be regionally televised on CSS. After the CAA voted to keep Georgia State and Old Dominion out of CAA championships during the 2012-2013 year, GSU and the Sun Belt Conference have announced that student-athletes from 10 Georgia State sports will be eligible to participate in postseason play in the Sun Belt Conference in 2012-13.

Georgia State University officially accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference in all sports starting in Fall of 2013. The conference change comes with it a step up to FBS, formerly Division 1-A, football and marks GSU as the first school since Western Kentucky in 2009 to jump from FCS to FBS in football.
