GSU's Latest Commit: Tanner Strickland

As we enter the final week before National Signing Day, and things start to settle out for many student athletes, late commitments start to come in. Such was the case yesterday when Pike County's Tanner Strickland became GSU's latest commit. Tanner spoke exclusively with a day after verbally committing to the Panthers.

A a player who loves to play defense, Tanner Strickland played linebacker in High School.  He was recruited by Coach Chris Ward who would like to develop him at defensive end. However, Strickland says that Coach Curry may have other plans, as he may use him at linebacker for the Panthers.

At 6-4, 240 lbs, Tanner is an imposing force on the field who can bench 375 lbs and squat 435 lbs. He lists knowledge of the game and ability to quickly learn offenses as strengths that help him lead from the linebacker position.

Strickland was familiar with Georgia State as he is related to 2011 recruit McClain Head. He chose GSU because the school has “pretty much everything I like”, and he looks forward to playing under Coach Curry.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things about Coach Curry and what he can do, and I just think he can take me to my full potential.”

Tanner will visit GSU this Friday and plans to sign Wednesday morning, and have a ceremony after school.

Stay tuned to for more interview of GSU recruits as we head into National Signing Day.
