Spencer Talks About Picking Georgia State

Jameel Spencer committed to the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday, as first reported here on Panthersville.com. Yesterday we had an opportunity to talk with Jameel about his recruitment and what drove his decision to commit to GSU.

Jameel Spencer was first approached by Georgia State last spring when Coach Curry's staff offered him shortly after FIU first offered him. After the coaching change, he reached out to the new staff to let them know he was still interested and those discussions led to an official visit last weekend. Jameel thencommitted to the Panthers on Wednesday.

Primarily recruited by Coach Jackson, Spencer is an Outside Linebacker who his coach describes as "a very explosive athlete who has only really played three years of football with a huge upside". Jameel was impressed by the "family atmosphere" and the "new and young coaching staff" and cited "the opportunity to be a part of something big for the city of Atlanta" as some of the reasons he chose GSU.

Spencer plans to enroll in the summer so that he can work out with the team and get acquainted with the campus. He said that the other recruits that were with him on his official visit "definitely built up a camaraderie" and have a common goal. "I can honestly say that all of us are coming in there with the same goal in mind to change State around and get some W's".

Jameel will be part of a recruitiung class of up to 29 players that the Panthers are expected to sign on Feb. 6th.
