Woodward Academy (Atlanta) lineman Jordan Watkins is getting attention from schools across the ACC and SEC. The 2012 recruit has begun to take visits to some of those schools that are showing him attention.

The 6'5"-265 Watkins spends most of his time at defensive tackle for Woodward Academy but occasionally he gets to play on the offensive line. Watkins and his teammates have gotten off to a good start this season. "We're 5-0 in region 3A and we're ranked 8th in the region." Woodward looks to be in good shape to make the playoffs this season.

Schools are now recruiting the top players earlier each year. Watkins is no exception. "Right now LSU, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, and pretty much the whole ACC and SEC are recruiting me." Watkins feels that Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Alabama are recruiting him the hardest right now.

Watkins was in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-Florida game this past weekend. "Coach Smart came over to me and said he was glad to see me at the game and looked forward to seeing me at others." Alabama has also been to Woodward to see Watkins. Georgia Tech is another school that is giving Watkins a lot of attention. "Coach (Buzz) Preston is recruiting me very hard," said Watkins. "He's a coach that I like a lot and I know that I have a lot of trust in him."

The third school on that list is Georgia. "Coach (Rodney) Garner is recruiting me there and the fact that he is the defensive line coach is a plus."

Alabama is not the only school that Watkins has visited for a game. "I went to a couple of Georgia Tech games last year and I'll be going to Georgia and Alabama games this year." Watkins has plans to visit Raleigh for the North Carolina State-Boston College game this coming weekend as well as the Georgia Tech-Miami game in November.

It is too early for Watkins to have a favorites list. "I want to visit a lot of schools and see what the atmosphere is like at the school and I'd like to get to know all the coaches I can to see how I would fit into their system." Watkins will also be looking at the majors that are available at each school that would enable him to get into sports broadcasting. "That is what I want to do after football if possible."
