Alex Poythress Moving Up Recruiting Lists

Alex Poythress is a 6-8, 210 pound Class of 2012 small forward from Clarksville (TN) Northeast High School. His play this summer on the AAU Nashville Celtics has catapulted him into elite status on the national recruiting scene. His 2010-11 season is about to begin and he talked about his recruiting.

Georgia Tech Coaches Paul Hewitt and Peter Zaharis recently visited Alex Poythress but their visit didn't go as planned. "They were here to see me in preseason practice but I had an ankle sprain so they mainly talked to my coach." Poythress had previously met with Coach Hewitt in the spring.

While it may be early in the process for Poythress, he is already collecting offers. "I have offers from Cincinnati, Georgia, Miami, Memphis, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt." Georgia Tech and other schools have also been recruiting Poythress.

Poythress is getting help from his high school coach as he works his way through the recruiting. He has a plan for what he'll be looking for from each of the schools. "Player development, academics, and the coaching staff are things I'll be looking at from each school."

Following his play this summer in AAU ball; Poythress has received high marks for his overall game. He is now focusing on areas that he'd like to improve his game. "I'm working on my ball handling, shooting and defense."

Alex is not the only athlete in the family. "I have a twin sister, Alexis who plays basketball and volleyball," said Alex. "Volleyball is her best sport."

Poythress is strong both on the court and in the classroom. "I have a 3.8 GPA." Top Stories
