Darrius Caldwell Sacks The Rumors

There have been rumors floating around about Mays High school outside linebacker Darrius Caldwell and Illinois. The Georgia Tech commit put a stop to those rumors and firmed up his commitment to Georgia Tech.

Darrius Caldwell and his teammates finished the regular season and will begin the playoffs this coming Friday. "We finished at 7-3 and will take on Clarke Central in Athens Friday night in the first round of the play offs," said Caldwell. "Last year we played them and lost by three in the first round and this time it is our turn to return the favor and move onto the next round.

Following his playoff game on Friday evening, Darrius will be making the short trip to Georgia Tech on Saturday for the Miami game. "It will be exciting to see the 1990 National Championship team honored at half time and I'm looking forward to being there."

Recently, there have been rumors about Darrius taking a trip to Illinois. Caldwell talked about those rumors. "I'm 100% committed to Georgia Tech and I'm not sure how the rumors got started," said Caldwell. "The Tech coaches know I am firmly committed to coming to Georgia Tech to play football for Coach (Paul) Johnson and his staff."

Caldwell is looking forward to being a part of the tradition at Georgia Tech. "I really want to be a part of that tradition." Darrius told us that he's not taking any visits other than his official visit to Georgia Tech. "I will be talking to the coaches about when they want me to come for that visit."

Darrius is looking forward to playing defense for Coach Al Groh. "He knows how to get linebackers to the NFL and really knows defense." Caldwell feels that he is very coachable and is looking forward to being coached by Groh and Coach Joe Speed. "I hope an NFL career will be my next step in life and if any coach can get me there it will be the ones at Georgia Tech."

The coaches at Tech plan on using Caldwell as an outside linebacker. "That is the position I feel I can make the best use of my talents."

The Yellow Jacket fans can rest easy as Darrius is counting the day until he can sign his letter of intent with Georgia Tech.
