Zach Dancel: Safety Switch Snags Spotlight

The experts have said that Zach Dancel is the best high school quarterback in Maryland. Strangely, after also taking on defensive responsibilities, toward the end of the season, he's captured the attention of a number of high profile programs. The 6-0, 192 pound senior from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland will be in Atlanta this weekend for an official visit at Georgia Tech.

The trip to Atlanta for Zachary Dancel will be his first. He'll have some company with him when he makes his visit. "I'll be coming with my parents and teammate Blake Countess who is also being recruited by Georgia Tech."

Dancel has a few offers and some other schools have recently discovered him. "I have offers from New Mexico, Stony Brook, and Towson," said Dancel. "After I started playing safety in the last four or five games of the season, I apparently began being noticed." Michigan, Illinois, and Maryland have all been in touch with Dancel. "Most of the schools want me as a safety."

Will Tech be one of those schools that want him at safety? "That's one of the things we'll talk about this weekend. Dancel is being recruited at Tech by Coach Al Groh. He doesn't have a preference for what position he plays in college. "It's anywhere I can help the team."

Academics are at the top of the list for Zach in what he's looking for in making his college choice. "I'd like to play and have some early impact and the coaches will also be important."

With his recruitment beginning to gain some steam, Dancel is not sure when he'll make a decision. He'll look to his parents for help but the decision will primarily be his. Top Stories
