Starr's Mill athlete Zach Laskey has been patiently waiting on an offer from Georgia Tech. Coach Paul Johnson told Zach to be patient that he would work things out for him to get a scholarship. Tonight Georgia Tech and Coach Johnson came through with that offer and Zach committed to the Yellow Jackets.
Laskey got the in-home visit he was waiting on this evening. "I had the visit from Coach Johnson and Coach Buzz Preston this evening and they offered me and said they would love for me to be part of the Yellow Jacket family."
It didn't take Zach long to make a decision. "I immediately told him that I was more than willing and that the offer was what I have been waiting on and committed to him and Georgia Tech as soon as he offered."
Getting the offer and then committing made Zach feel great. "I can't tell you how happy I am and how excited I am to be heading to Georgia Tech." The offer was a dream come true for Laskey. "My teammate, Jeff Greene, is going there and that also played a big part in me wanting to go to Georgia Tech." Greene and Laskey will be roommates at Tech. "I can't wait for signing day to get here."
Laskey isn't the only one excited about the offer and the commit. "My parents are very happy and excited for me because they will be just around the corner from Tech and can easily come see me play."
Zach was appreciative about the way the Tech staff handled his recruitment. "They have been extremely open and honest with me and my parents from the beginning." The trust that they built was important to Laskey. "The staff is great and all the coaches I've met have been fantastic." Zach especially liked that he knew where he stood with the coaches.
Laskey was recruited as an athlete. He's played both running back and linebacker. "Coach Johnson said that he was almost positive that I would come in as a B Back but there was a possibility I could play slot receiver, linebacker, or even safety." Zach doesn't have a preference in the position he plays. "I'm a team player and will play whatever position they want me to play." Laskey is looking forward to getting on the field to make plays on either offense or defense.
The race for his services came down to four schools. "It was mainly Navy, Air Force, Middle Tennessee and Georgia Tech." Tech got in the picture a few weeks ago and that was what Zach wanted. "I'll have to call these other schools and cancel my official visits because I'm shutting down my recruitment." Laskey will be taking his official visit to Georgia Tech January 14th.
