Tech Coaches Still Have Eye On Battle

Americus-Sumter defensive tackle Jonathon Battle spent his senior season trying to regain his form after suffering a knee injury his junior year. Battle and his coaches are sending film of his play from later in the season when he was beginning to get closer to his former playing form. He has a few schools that continue to monitor his situation along with an offer from Louisville.

The pace of Jonathan Battle's recruitment is not where he would have liked it to be as a senior. "To be honest, it has been slow but a few schools that hadn't really recruited me that much have started showing interest in me." Western Kentucky and Georgia Southern are the two schools taking a look at Battle. "They've requested film on me and both have talked with my high school coach."

Georgia Tech is a school that has continued to monitor Battle throughout the season. "Coach (Charles) Kelly was at my school a few weeks ago and asked for the most recent film of me." Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson was interested in seeing how Battle played in the last half of the season. "Coach Kelly and Coach Johnson will use this film to determine if Georgia Tech can offer me a scholarship." Battle feels his best play was late in the season. "Coach Kelly told me to hold tight and they would look at the film and let me know what they will be doing."

With the help of his high school coach, Battle has been sending film to other schools. "I know I had a long hard road to overcome and I feel that I worked hard and made a lot of progress." Battle is hoping that hard work will pay off for him. "I just have to be patient."

At one time Battle was hoping to hear from both Georgia and Georgia Tech but that hasn't been the case with Georgia. "I guess they feel they want to go in another direction." The Tech coaches have continued to communicate with Battle to let him know exactly how they are handling his recruitment. "You can't ask for more than that considering the situation."

One other school has begun to inquire about Battle. "Florida talked with my coach and asked about me." Battle doesn't know what will come of that but he glad that they have at least shown some interest.

Battle currently holds one offer from Louisville. "From talking to Georgia Southern, I feel an offer from them might be coming so we'll see what happens." Top Stories
