Tyler Marcordes - Under the Radar

Georgia Tech received their 17th commitment for the 2011 class this week when linebacker Tyler Marcordes called the Tech coaches to give them his verbal commit. The Normal, Illinois recruit made his commit following and official visit to Georgia Tech in December.

On his visit to Tech Marcordes received an offer and decided to make it accept the offer this Wednesday. "I let the coaches know that I was committing to them. Tyler became familiar with Tech by watching them play on television. "They had become my dream team and once I received the offer I wanted to commit to them."

Marcordes first contact with Georgia Tech came last spring. "They liked what they saw but wanted more film from my senior year." When the Tech staff received his film, they called and invited him to come to the Duke game. It was on the Duke visit that he was invited to come back for an official visit. "I came to Atlanta on the weekend of the 10th and had a great time."

On the visit, Tyler became friends with current player Jay Finch and recruit Tremayne McNair. "Tremayne and I hit it off and we'll both be playing linebacker with him on the inside and me on the outside."

Following the visit the coaches told Marcordes that they liked his film and would let him know about an offer. "They called with an offer and I committed to them because I knew that with the academics, Georgia Tech was where I wanted to go. Being patient paid off for Tyler and once he received the offer, he committed.

During the process, Marcordes built a relationship with his position coach Joe Speed. "He likes me where I am as far as my height and weight is concerned but wants me to work on getting a little faster." Marcordes is 6'4"-231. "He said I was what they were looking for in their scheme for an outside linebacker."

After he made the commitment to Georgia Tech, Marcordes called Illinois to inform them that he would be going to Georgia Tech. His parents are happy with the decision in spite of the distance from home. "They really love my decision and we have direct flights to Atlanta so it will not be hard on them to come see me play or for me to go home."

Marcordes and his teammates have plans for a signing day function at his school. "My high school has plans for us to sign our letters of intent signing day morning."
