Smith played quarterback this year for Monroe Area but not everyone is looking at him as a quarterback. "Virginia Tech is telling me that they are saying athlete when they recruit me but most likely I will play defensive back if I went there."
The Georgia Tech coaches are telling Smith that they like him as a quarterback but he could possibly move to another position if his skills would get him on the field quicker than at the quarterback position. "They want the best athletes on the field at the best positions."
Being able to play quarterback will not be a factor in Smith's decision. "I'm cool playing other positions. If it's quarterback great and if it's not that's fine too." Whatever helps the team is where Smith is willing to play.
Smith is one of multiple division one recruits on the Monroe Area team. They have talked about playing together but they are not part of any package deals. "I joke around with Stephon Tuitt about maybe coming to the same school with me." Both Smith and Tuitt may ride together on the 14th when they visit Georgia Tech. The third member of the group is 2012 defensive end Kenderious Whitehead. "I know he likes Georgia Tech a lot too."
Right now Smith has plans to make his decision before signing day. "I will probably sit down after the Virginia Tech visit to see which the best fit is for me." Going into the visits Virginia Tech is the leader with Georgia Tech a close second. "I've been told that Georgia Tech will offer me on my official visit." An offer from Georgia Tech might change all that.
Football isn't the only sport that Smith and Tuitt play together. Both are teammates on the basketball team. "I'm playing the high post and Tuitt is at center." Smith has four or five double- doubles this season for Monroe Area. "I enjoy playing basketball." Basketball will not be part of his college activities. "I plan on concentrating everything on academics and football once I get to college."
