"They told me I'd be an outside linebacker," Junior Gnonkonde said about the Tech coaching staff. "I'll have to gain weight and get used to that position."
The junior from Lakeland, Ga. has been speaking with Coach Todd Spencer, and the two seem to be moving towards a verbal offer for Gnonkonde. He mentioned that if he receives the offer from Spencer or any member of the Georgia Tech coaching staff, he will be extremely happy to have the Yellow Jackets as an option.
But he will need to get bigger, as he currently has 215 pounds on his 6-4 frame. The coaches, Gnonkonde says, believe he could be a big-time contributor to the Georgia Tech defense if he can add weight.
Upon visiting for a Junior Day recently, Gnonkonde was a believer of the Tech program – both the football side and the academic side. While he is looking at Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and Nebraska, among others, Gnonkonde said that he likes Georgia Tech just as much as any school he has visited.
So while he waits for the offer from Tech (or elsewhere), Gnonkonde has a few goals for his senior year at Lanier County High School.
"Get good grades and keep up a smile," Gnonkonde said.
