"Showtime" Down On The Flats

Peachtree Ridge (GA) High School running back DiAndre Atwater made the short trip to Atlanta this past weekend for Georgia Tech's Junior Day . DiAndre is the son of former NFL standout, Steve Atwater with the Denver Broncos. Atwater made the trip with his teammate Ray Buchanan Jr. whose dad is also a former NFL star.

The trip to Tech went really well for the 5'9"-195 DiAndre Atwater. "I thought the coaches were cool and it's close to home." DiAndre also likes the fact that Georgia Tech runs the same offense as his Peachtree Ridge team.

One of the coaches that Atwater had a chance to talk to on the visit was A Backs Coach Lamar Owens. "He showed interest in me and invited me to their summer camp and I hope to go." Atwater didn't receive an offer on his visit but he hopes to gain one on a return visit. "

Florida is one of the schools that are also showing interest in Atwater. He's made previous trips to their campus. "Florida also invited me to their camp and I'm hearing from South Carolina, Louisville, UCLA, and Cal."

The environment at the schools and their academics are two factors that DiAndre will be looking at in choosing a school. "Both are excellent at Tech." Atwater has shown that academics mean something to him having maintained a 3.9 GPA.

Atwater is an exciting running back and his teammates gave him a nickname a few years ago that has stuck with him. "My teammates started calling me "Showtime" when I was in the 6th or 7th grade." His speed is part of the package that makes him an exciting running back. "I guess I'm pretty fast, but I also run people over."
