Tech Basketball Seeks Younger Gathers

Ricardo Gathers is making quite a name for himself in the basketball circles of Louisiana. His older brother, Greg, set the bar pretty high as a defensive end at Tech in the late 90's through '02 on the field and off, as a kidney ailment ended his career prematurely. The younger Gathers has attracted attention from all the big name schools coast-to-coast.

The four star 2012 recruit initially made a name for himself playing for the Louisiana Select team on the AAU circuit. He can be both physical on the inside or he can show his athleticism in the transition game.

Ricardo Gathers and his Reserve Christian School are in the semi-finals of the state playoffs and this has meant that coaches from some of the top schools in the country have made the trip to Louisiana to watch him play.

LSU, St. Johns, Texas and Oregon are some of the schools that have recently come to see him play. LSU is the one school that may be recruiting the longest.

Gathers has also been recently visited by a school with which he has a history. Rico was recently visited by Georgia Tech assistant coach Daryl Labarrie. "Georgia Tech is the first college I got to know growing up and I'm a Georgia Tech fan since my brother played there."

In selecting a school for his college career, Gathers has three things that he's looking at in making a decision. "I'm looking at style of play, academics, and the atmosphere." Rico currently has a 3.3 GPA.

The schools won't have to wait long to find out Gathers' college choice. "I'm looking to make my choice in the early signing period….around November."

Gathers won't be making this decision by himself. "My family and my high school coach will be involved in the decision." Gathers, indeed will be a rich find for the college that wins his services. Top Stories
