The interest in Jordan Watkins has gained momentum in recent weeks. "I'm getting a lot of contact from schools across the southeast and beyond."
The two most recent trips for Watkins have been to Alabama and Georgia Tech. "At Alabama I had a chance to talk with Coach Saban and it was my second visit to Alabama." Watkins picked up an offer from Alabama on the visit.
Watkins only lives fifteen minutes from Georgia Tech's campus so he's been there a lot. "I know the campus and the football side of things but what surprised me about this trip was what Tech can do for me in my preferred major of broadcast journalism." Watkins was able to see that a former player had just gotten a job at CNN. "It was a definite plus for Georgia Tech."
While Jordan is getting a lot of attention from so many schools, when he asked which one was was recruiting him the hardest, he replied that Georgia Tech was the one school that was recruiting him very hard. "Georgia Tech is recruiting me the hardest out of all the schools right now. I talk to Coach Preston my recruiting coach a lot and I've spoken with Coach Groh who said the he and I will get to know one another very well over the course of my recruiting process."
The other state school, Georgia is also staying in touch with Jordan. Coach Richt just saw Jordan the other week. "Coach Richt came by my school and told me that Georgia is very interested in me. They have one of the best journalism schools around, so they are one of the schools that interests me too."
Academics will play a huge role in Jordan's school choice. "I value my education very much and my parents place a lot of emphasis on my education." Jordan's dad is a graduate of MIT.
Jordan's parents will play a big role in helping him make his college choice. "Last night they were talking about how I will trim my list of schools and how I will eventually decide on a school." Jordan is counting on their input.
Watkins is being recruited to play the three technique in the 4-3 defense and in the 3-4 defense he is being recruited as a defensive end.
Jordan is not ready to name any favorites at this time. "I've been real busy with basketball so I think it will be about three or four weeks before I trim down my list." Jordan's list could include anywhere from five to fifteen schools. "After I trim the list I can start looking harder at each school."
No time frame has been set for Watkins to make his choice. "I'd like to take as much time as I can so that I can be sure when I make my choice."
With spring practices beginning, Watkins is looking at taking some trips. "I've been thinking about attending some practices but if I don't make any I'm sure I will be at some of the spring games." Watkins has not decided which games he'll attend.
