A month into the evaluation period Jimmy Holmes has seen his recruitment begin to take off. "Two weeks ago I picked up my first offer from Georgia Tech and just yesterday I picked up my second offer from Minnesota. I wanted to wait until I had more than one offer before I went public with them."
The offer from Georgia Tech came from offensive line coach Mike Sewak. "I was talking with him on the phone and we were talking about everything. He asked me if I was coming to their camp again this year and I told him I was. Then, all of a sudden, he asked me how I would feel if he extended me a verbal offer. I told him that I would love to have that offer." Coach Sewak extended the offer and told Holmes that Coach Johnson and the whole staff would love to have him as a part of the team.
Holmes plays the offensive and defensive line as well as linebacker for Silver Bluff. Coach Sewak and the Tech staff have a good idea where they want him to play. "Coach Sewak says the defensive staff wants me as a middle linebacker or possibly at outside linebacker." Middle linebacker is Holmes's favorite position.
Holmes's trip to Atlanta for Georgia Tech's camp will be his second. "I went to their camp last year. The coaches said they were very impressed with my time at the camp and said they hoped I would make a return trip to the camp the following year. I enjoyed it so much there that I know I will be back in Atlanta for the camp this June."
Georgia Tech and Minnesota aren't the only schools looking at Holmes. "In the past few weeks, I have heard from Miami, Georgia, South Carolina, and most recently Florida. Clemson sent some mail and said they are watching me." Holmes is hoping that the interest in him will pick up over the summer. "Still, I'm excited to have the offer from Georgia Tech."
The depth at his position and the education the school offers will be the two things that will enter into Holmes' decision.
