The Harris County duo arrived in the morning to get a closer look at the campus and the facilities. "We toured the whole school. Everything looks great and looks very new. I was really impressed with the weight room facility, which is a top notch state of the art facility. The nutrition portion of the facility is awesome."
After the tour, Ellison prepared for the camp. "We did a few drills like pad drills. They got our measurements and we did the basics like the forty and vertical. I came in at 6' ½" and 280 pounds. My forty time was 5.18 and I had a 29 ½" vertical jump." The second half of the camp session was cancelled due to an electrical storm. "Still, we got a lot in for the day. They taught me a couple of new moves, they showed me how to keep my hands moving, and how it is all about the hips in working on the defensive line. I learned a lot out there today."
Jay also had a chance to talk with some of the coaches on his visit. "I talked to most all of them but I talked to Coach ("Buzz") Preston, Coach (Andy) McCollum and head Coach (Paul) Johnson the most. They told me to keep working hard and that they are very, very interested in me. They had talked with my head coach earlier and told him they were extending me an offer and they told me today that I had one. That was great news."
Jay also learned where he would play if he were to come to Georgia Tech. "They want me on the defensive line. They like me as a tackle most likely a nose guard in the 3-4."
Jay and his teammate and friend Jordan Jenkins have thought about playing together in college. "We have talked about playing at the same school. I know he has a lot of offers and he is pretty much open right now but wherever he goes I will look at that school as well."
The trip to Georgia Tech will not be his final one. "I will go to some of their games this season and possibly make another visit."
