Coaches and Academics Tops for Mitchell

Charles Mitchell is an Atlanta recruit that is getting the attention of Georgia Tech Coach Brian Gregory and his staff. The feeling is mutual as the 2012 recruit is taking a close look at Tech. The 6-7 ½, 260 pound power forward from Wheeler (GA) High School updated where his recruiting stands.

Charles Mitchell has been in Akron, Ohio at the LeBron James Skills Academy as one of the 80 high school invitees. His performances the past few days have shown that he belongs among the elite recruits in the country.

Life on the road will continue for Mitchell following his time in Akron. "I go to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Big Shots Tournament, Peach State in Augusta, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and then back to South Carolina for a tournament in Myrtle Beach before school starts."

The offers continue to roll in for Mitchell. "The latest schools I've heard from (with offers) are Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Maryland and North Carolina is even starting to show some interest." The latest offers are in addition to eleven previous offers received by Charles. Georgia Tech and Georgia are two of the eleven schools that had previously offered.

Mitchell is not ready to name a leader but one school has gotten his attention. "I wouldn't want to say Georgia Tech is near the top…but they've done pretty well. I got to meet the whole coaching staff and they're pretty cool." Mitchell met the staff on a recent unofficial visit.

When deciding on a school, Mitchell will be focused on two things. "I'll be looking at my relationship with the coaches and academics."

Charles plans to take some unofficial visits in the fall. Following those visits, he'll work on trimming down his list of offers.

Besides his mom, AAU coach, and high school coach, Charles will also be relying on Coach Peaches to help him make his decision. "I've known her since I was three years old. She's like family to me and is involved with my AAU team."

While he's traveling around the country this summer, you'll be able to find Charles in the gym working on his conditioning and his 15 foot jump shot as he prepares himself for his senior season and then college ball. Top Stories
