Atkins Forms Bond With Coach Johnson

Thomson, Georgia defensive takle John Atkins made a return visit to Georgia Tech for their July 16th football camp. Atkins spent time with Coaches Paul Johnson and Andy McCollum and hung out with some of the Tech football players.

John Atkins enjoyed the time he spent on campus. He attended the camp but didn't participate in the drills. "I've always enjoyed my visits to Georgia Tech."

Most of his time with the coaches was spent with Coach Johnson as Coach McCollum was busy coaching the campers. "Coach Johnson and I talked about everything but nothing in particular. It was a good chance for both of us to get to know one another better and form a good bond." The visit was a good chance for Atkins to get to know the coaches better and for them to get to know him better.

When he wasn't with the coaches "John John" got to hang out with the players. "I talked with J.C. Lanier a lot as we have become real good friends and I got to know Errin Joe. Atkins especially enjoyed getting to know Joe. "He was a character as he cut up with me a lot." Atkins enjoyed his time with the players.

Georgia Tech has been one of Atkins top teams but this visit allowed him to get a different viewpoint. "This visit did nothing but make them more of a team that I like."

Atkins doesn't have a list of top schools but he does have one school that he likes. "Georgia Tech is right up there for me. I like Tech a lot." Look for Atkins to trim his list before long.

Trips to Florida and Clemson will be the final ones for Atkins this summer. "I am going to Florida on the 22nd and then over to Clemson on the 29th. Following the visits, he'll begin getting ready for his senior season.

Nothing has changed for Atkins' timetable to make a decision. "I will still make my college decision after my senior year of high school football. I can't see myself making one before then." Top Stories
