Academics Key For Cole Trolinger

As many colleges are putting the finishing touches on their 2012 recruiting classes, there are a diminishing number of scholarships available to offer to high school seniors. One senior who is hoping to pick up one of those final scholarship offers is East Coweta (GA) High School tight end Cole Trolinger.

Currently ranked as the No. 72 tight end prospect in the nation by Scout.com, Cole Trolinger is still actively being recruited by Mississippi State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee State and Vanderbilt, although he has yet to pick up his first offer.

"I'm really hoping that I'll get mine soon," Trolinger remarked about waiting for his first FBS offer.

That offer could be coming in the next couple of weeks, as he currently has visits set up to Vanderbilt (Oct. 22) and Georgia Tech (Oct. 29).

Trolinger is hoping that those visits can shine some light on his recruitment, as well as help him to narrow down his list of favorites. He currently lists three schools as standing out ahead of the rest.

"I really like Tennessee, but I also like Georgia Tech because they are close to home and then Mississippi State because they have been recruiting me the longest."

As well as being the lone school from Georgia on his list, the Yellow Jackets are also the only team that is recruiting Trolinger to play defensive end. Coach Buzz Preston is handling Trolinger's recruitment for Georgia Tech, and it appears that he has made quite an impression on Trolinger and his family.

"He's one of my favorite coaches. He's one of my top two or three coaches out of all of the coaches that I have talked to. He has been great with me, and he has been very straight forward with my family."

While Trolinger is still uncertain about the options that he will have available when making his college decision, he is very clear about what he is looking for out of his future home.

"Academics are the number one factor. Right now, I have a 4.0 GPA, and academics are very important to me. Other than that, I am just looking for a place where if I wasn't going to play football I would still enjoy being at the school as a student, and the coaching staff will also be important."
