Will Johnson's Speed Attracting Recruiters

Chattahoochee (GA) athlete Will Johnson has had seen his recruitment take off over the past couple of weeks. While he has five offers to date, some big time schools have started to take notice of Will's big play on both sides of the ball. One local team, Georgia Tech, has invited him for an official visit and Johnson will be taking that visit after he concludes his senior season.

In addition to Chattahoochee having an 8-1 season, Will Johnson is also having a strong senior season. "I am really enjoying it a lot and that is one reason I feel my recruiting is just now starting to take off." With his season winding down, schools have more film of Johnson leading to the increased interest in him.

We talked to Will following his team's 34-0 win over South Forsyth Thursday evening. "I finally had a kickoff kicked to me and I returned it inside the opposing teams 30 yard line. It was great to finally get a chance to return one." Johnson's 4.36 forty time has forced teams to kick away from. Will played both receiver and defensive back in the game.

Johnson currently has five offers from Arkansas, Middle Tennessee State, Samford, UAB, and UNC-Charlotte. That number could increase with the number of new schools that are recruiting him. "I am hearing a lot from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Vandy, and some from Georgia."

Johnson feels that two of those schools are recruiting him the hardest. "Both Georgia Tech and Kentucky have stepped up their recruitment of me."

Will is hearing a lot from Georgia Tech Coach Owens. Johnson likes what he hears from Owens. "He always is positive with me and tells me how much they liked what they have seen of my film. Coach Turner from Kentucky also stays in contact with Johnson. He feels he's building a good relationship with both coaches.

The schools recruiting Johnson like him as a cornerback. "I like playing offense but if corner is where the team needs me then that is where I will play. If they say I want you are a wide receiver, then that is where I will play. Team comes first for me."

Johnson currently is only making plans to take one official visit. "The only one I know I will be taking at this time will be one to Georgia Tech." The visit to Tech will help them get to know each other better. . "I've been to one game (Maryland game) and it will be nice to get back there on an official."

"I have a really good friend on the team in Denzel McCoy. He tells me how great it is at Georgia Tech." Johnson's official visit will be either in mid December or early January. "It depends on when we have our last game." Johnson also has plans to attend Tech's game with Georgia.

Academics will play a key role in Johnson's decision. "At my home we place a very high priority on academics." Johnson also wants to play at a high level. The campus setting will be another factor in making his decision. "I want to have some things to do and enjoy myself while I am in college."
