Johnson's Northgate team is undefeated thus far this season. The 308 pound defensive tackle is having a strong season following an off-season of conditioning that has increased his speed and strength.
His strong showing this season has schools beginning to give him verbal offers. "Georgia Tech is one that has offered me and some others like LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina have either offered or I feel are very close to offering." Johnson also has other schools showing interest.
The visit to Tech left an impression on Johnson. "The place was rocking and I had a great time." DeAndre had a chance to see the locker room and weight room prior to the game.
Johnson also met with coaches "Buzz" Preston and Andy McCollum. "I really liked the way Coach McCollum was talking to me about how to play defense on the line. You could tell he knew his stuff. I liked him a lot, he's a great guy and easy to get along with."
There was one part of his visit that stood out to Johnson. "Honestly the best part to me was when the players came out for the second half and you could see them ready to put Clemson away. They were intense and fired up. That was awesome to see."
DeAndre only has one more trip planned this season. "I'm going back to Atlanta and see Georgia Tech play Virginia Tech." He has no other trips planned at this time.
Two schools stand out to Johnson when asked which schools are recruiting him the hardest. "Right now I think Georgia Tech and North Carolina are recruiting me harder than any one else." Johnson stays in touch with the coaches at both schools.
Johnson has two factors that will determine which school he chooses. "Mostly I want to stay close to home and really want to go to a school that will give me a great education."
