Ah Ching On A Mission For An Offer

Greer (SC) High School linebacker Atamu Ah Ching is in the midst of a huge senior campaign that he is hoping will lead to additional scholarship offers. Through just ten games, Ah Ching has registered an impressive 165 tackles and eight sacks, helping lead his team to a playoff berth.

It is that production that has helped Atamu Ah Ching land scholarship offers from Arizona, BYU, Oregon State and Utah. With four scholarship offers on the table from schools on the west coast, Ah Ching is optimistic that a team closer to home will pull the trigger with an offer in the near future.

One school in particular that he is hoping to receive an offer from is Georgia Tech. Ah Ching was recently on hand to see the Yellow Jackets defeat the previously undefeated Clemson Tigers, and he came away impressed with what he saw.

"Oh man, I loved it," Ah Ching said of his trip to Atlanta. "They toured us around the whole campus and through the weight room and the locker room as well. I loved every minute of it, and I really loved the atmosphere. Overall, their high academic standards and Coach Johnson are what really stood out to me. I talked to my recruiting coach, Coach Spencer, and he said he was glad that he saw me. He said that he wants me at Tech, but he needs to check with the other coaches before they offer. I'm hoping that it will happen, because it would be nice to stay close to the east coast."

Ah Ching has not yet taken an official visit, and says that he is going to wait until after his high schools season is over before he schedules official visits to any of the schools on his list.

Although he claims that he does not have any favorites at the time, it appears that the Yellow Jackets might surge to the front if they were to offer.

"I don't have any favorites currently, but my perspective would change if Georgia Tech were to offer."

Ah Ching's family is of the Mormon faith, and he does plan on serving a two-year mission after his high school graduation, meaning that he likely would not enroll in college until 2014.

"If the Georgia Tech coaches were okay with the fact that I plan to serve a two-year Morman mission that would work in their favor."

Ah Ching does not currently have a timeframe for his decision, but it is likely that he will take at least a couple of official visits before making his college choice.
