Josh Hess: Interest Is Picking Up

Offensive tackle Josh Hess out of Richlands, Virginia pledged his commitment to Mario Cristobal and the Florida International Panthers back in August, but that has not stopped other schools from keeping in contact with the mammoth lineman prospect.

Josh Hess still only holds offers from FIU, Marshall and Liberty, a strong senior campaign has led to serious recruiting interest from a few premiere programs.

"I'm still committed to FIU, but I'm talking to a few schools right now," Hess stated in a recent phone interview. "Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and TCU are all showing me interest."

Hess was planning on driving down I-85 to make in a stop in Atlanta this past week, but was unable to make the trip due to his team preparing for the playoffs.

"I talked to Coach (Mike) Sewak last week and I was supposed to go the Virginia Tech game on Thursday night, but I couldn't fit that into my schedule. I'm going to try to get down there sometime during the season."

Hess has never been to Georgia Tech's campus, but says that he has followed the Yellow Jackets closely this season.

"I know their season got off to fast start. They're a good football team. I like the offense that they run, and I think I could fit in well with that because I really like to run block."

While it is apparent that Hess is willing to allow schools to make their recruiting pitch, he also states that he is "pretty heavily committed to FIU" for the time being. However, there does appear to be a way for other teams to even up the odds in the race for Hess' services.

"If someone else were to offer me, I'd definitely consider it. I am going to go to school wherever I feel most comfortable. I already went to FIU and I felt very comfortable there. If I visited somewhere else and I felt comfortable there, I'd consider it pretty heavily."

Hess is a big bodied offensive lineman who excels in run blocking. He uses his hands very well and drives his feet well to finish off blocks. When he gets to the next level, he will need to shed some of his body fat and put on better weight so that he can move his feet better than he does currently. That body transformation would also allow him to play with better bend in his knees, which is another area that currently needs improvement. Overall, his size and physicality will make him an imposing run blocker at the collegiate level. Top Stories
