Tyler Ennis Wants To Make Immediate Impact

Coach Brian Gregory's Christmas wish list may just begin with a future point guard. Tyler Ennis is just such a premiere point guard, Class of 2013 at New Jersey's St. Benedict's and high on that list. The 6-2 ½ hoopster hails from Toronto, Canada and had just finished a two hour (swim) workout when scout.com caught up with him.

Tyler Ennis has led his team to a 7-0 start to the 2011/2012 season. "We're playing pretty well but we are about to get into a very tough part of the schedule after Christmas with back-to-back games including one against St. Anthony's."

Tyler has not been ignored when it comes to scholarship offers. Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Kansas, and Virginia are some of the schools that have offered Ennis.

One of those schools has been recruiting him harder than the others. "I'd say Georgia Tech. They keep up with me. I know they've been to see me play and Billy Schmidt and Coach Gregory stay in touch with me by phone, as well."

Tyler is not ready to name any favorites and remains open at this point in his recruitment. Weather may change all that. "Being from Toronto, I've had my fill of snow and I like the warmer weather. Ennis also likes that the ACC is one of the premiere conferences in the country.

Ennis has not taken a close look at Georgia Tech's depth and needs at the point guard position. "I know they're rebuilding and that might be a nice situation to be a part of."

The latest offer for Tyler came from another ACC school. "Maryland offered this week." Tler feels more offers may be on the way. "The Maryland offer tells me the coaches are still recruiting and I think there will be a lot at our game with St. Anthony's and during the rest of the year."

Tyler will probably wait until after the season before he takes some unofficial visits. " My dad (also helps with his Toronto-based AAU team as an assistant coach) and my AAU coach will provide input."

Ennis will also look to his brother for recruiting advise. "He has provided some thoughts since he just went through this before deciding on Rice. He was more focused on a high mid-major and I'm looking for a premiere program."

Tyler has his priorities in order in deciding which school he'll choose. He'll be looking for a good coach and a situation where he can play right away. "I'm looking at what year a team's point guards are, how many are on the team and who they may be looking at in the class behind me." Tyler is also looking for a a program that has a history of developing guards.

Ennis has a 3.8 GPA and he knows the value of a good education. "Certainly, a place where I can get a good education is also important."
