Ryan Norton A Possibility For Kicker?

Georgia Tech's search for a kicker in the 2012 class has been extremely interesting to follow. New kickers have seemed to enter the picture from out of nowhere, only to disappear just as quickly as they arrived.

While it is still not certain if the Yellow Jackets will ultimately bring in a kicker in this senior class, the Tech coaches are continuing to keep communications open with at least one elite specialist from New York: Ryan Norton.

Norton is coveted by college coaches across the country due to his exceptional leg strength. His dad tells GoJackets.com that he sent 47 of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks this season, while also converting a long field goal of 49 yards.

"I thought I kicked pretty well," Norton said over the phone. "Most of my kickoffs I usually hit out of the end zone, or at least into the end zone."

Norton currently holds offers from three programs and is receiving interest from a handful of additional schools, including Georgia Tech, who has visited Norton's home in New York.

"I have had contact with Georgia Tech for awhile. My recruiting coach is Joe Speed. We have a pretty good relationship. When he came up here, I liked him a lot. He seemed like a very nice guy and he helped us understand everything that was going on."

While the Yellow Jackets have made the trip up to New York to visit with Norton and his family, the kicker has yet to travel down to Atlanta to experience the Georgia Tech campus firsthand. It appears that an official visit be dependent on a single deciding factor.

"If they offer me a scholarship, then I would have to look at the school and take an official visit, but I think outside of that, we are just waiting."

As recruiting has really begun to pick up for Norton over the past month or so, he says that he plans on taking his time in making his decision.

"I'm just trying to take as long as I can to see what school fits me. My biggest factors are probably going to be the football level of play and also the academics."
