Roderick Chungong Confident In His Choice

Good Counsel, Maryland defensive lineman Roderick Chungong gave his verbal commit to Georgia Tech in August. This didn't stop other schools from attempting to flip him. Roderick took his official visit to Tech this weekend and cemented his commitment to them.

Roderick Chungong described his visit as great. "I really loved the trip and I got to see a lot of the school, campus, and city that I hadn't before. I am a city boy so I love Atlanta and I am looking forward to getting to Georgia Tech and start my career with the Jackets."

Roderick was able to learn what the coaches want him to do to prepare for the upcoming summer. "Coach (Andy) McCollum expects two freshmen to come in and get early playing time on the line."

The coaches want Roderick to add at least 15 pounds of muscle in order to be ready be ready for the summer workouts inAtlanta. "Knowing this I will be working hard to get ready so I can be one of those freshman that gets some early playing time. Chungong will be playing defensive end in the 3-4 defensive scheme. "That suits me fine and I am really looking forward to getting down there and start working."

Roderick was in Atlanta earlier in the summer but didn't get to see everything on campus. The official visit took care of that. "This time I had two days to see the campus and school. I love how the campus is set up in Atlanta and like I said before I am a city boy and love that part about Georgia Tech." The visit allowed Roderick to see the academic side of the school and to see why Georgia Tech is so highly respected and rated. "I will be getting a great education and degree."

Chungong was hosted on the trip by former Good Counsel teammate and current Georgia Tech cornerback Louis Young. "He showed me around and showed me the places and things that are fun and has a lot to do and talked to me about things and places that I should stay away from. He was great and said that I will love it there."

Young wasn't the only player that Roderick got to know on the trip. "B.J. Bostic, Vad Lee, Isaiah Johnson, Jabari Hunt-Days, and Errin Joe are a few that I can recall of the top of my head. They all had great things to say about Tech and made me realize that I made the perfect choice for my college career. They are some great guys."

Georgia Tech's latest commit was one of the recruits that spent some time with Roderick. "I understand that Freddie Burden got an offer and was going to commit while he was there. He's a big offensive lineman and will be a great addition to the team." Top Stories
