Lynn Griffin Says GT Was An "Easy Decision"

When Southern Mississippi head coach Larry Fedora left to take the head coaching job at North Carolina, Trinity Christian (Jacksonville, FL) athlete Lynn Griffin opened his recruitment. He received an in-home visit from Georgia Tech which led to Griffin giving them his commitment.

Georgia Tech coaches, Charles Kelly and Lamar Owens made the trip to Jacksonville to talk to Lynn Griffin about his upcoming official visit this weekend. "Coach Kelly talked about what plans he has for me at safety and then they both told me I had an offer and if I accepted it I would be a part of the Georgia Tech family."

The offer was one that Griffin had been patiently awaiting. "I've been to a few of the Georgia Tech games and seen the campus up there and really like what I see from the program. I feel that the degree I want to pursue is one that will give me a tremendous head start once I get out of college."

Griffin is looking forward to the opportunity to make some strong connections from business people with my Georgia Tech degree. Having family in the Atlanta area was another positive for Lynn. "I can go see them and if something happens I'm not that far away from them. Georgia Tech has so many positives for me and it is a great fit."

Lynn hopes to pursue a degree in business. "I was shown that a few of the players have gone on to big things in the business world with business degrees from Georgia Tech and I like that a lot."

Griffin has known for quite a while that he wanted to go to Georgia Tech. "I was just waiting on that offer and once I got it, it was an easy decision. I knew Georgia Tech was being squeezed on how many offers they could give out and they had some positions they really needed to get some players." The coaches let Griffin know that they wanted him and his patience paid off.

Lynn has played both running back and safety but there was no doubt where the coaches wanted him to play. "Coach Kelly said I was a safety all the way." Griffin likes that because he feels that is his best position.

At the coaches' suggestion, Lynn will continue to work on his strength and conditioning as well as staying on top of his classroom work. Lynn is working on his conditioning as member of the track team. "I do both the long and triple jump which will help me with going up against these tall receivers. I also run both the 100 and 400 meters. This has really helped me with my speed."

The commitment to Georgia Tech has ended Griffin's recruitment. "I will make my official visit to Georgia Tech this weekend and then wait until signing day to sign my letter of intent." Lynn's mom is very happy about his decision. She can't wait for me to become an official part of the Georgia Tech family." Top Stories
