Schools around the South are beginning to show interest in the athletic linebacker. "I'm hearing from Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Florida State. Coach Joe Speed from Georgia Tech is recruiting me."
As he begins the recruiting process, Shawanye Lawrence knows that academics will be one of the primary things he'll be looking at in selecting a school. "I plan to major in aerospace engineering so that's a big factor for me.
During the football season, Georgia Tech and Clemson were the two schools that Shawanye was able to visit. Lawrence's wrestling schedule has not allowed him to attend any Junior Days but he does have plans to visit some schools this summer. "I've been invited to some camps so I will talk to my dad and we will decide on which ones to attend."
Shawanye's visits will be scheduled around his participation in track this spring. He throws the discus and shot for the Eagles Landing track team.
The decision making process for Lawrence is one that he's given some thought. "I want to commit before my senior season starts so I can get everything out of the way and I won't have to worry about all the stress of taking official visits."
While many recruits worry about their rankings, this will not be something that Shawanye will worry about. "The way I look at it, a one star player can get the same thing as a five star player."
Shawanye has adjusted to the switch to the inside linebacker position at Eagles Landing but that may not be his position in college. "I will probably play defensive end in college as that has been my natural position in high school."
