The 2013 recruit, ranked as the number fifteen point guard by Scout.com, made the trip to Atlanta with his dad and best friend. They watched the Jackets win over Wake Forest and spent some time in the locker room after the game.
Following the game, Josh Newkirk also had a chance to tour the campus and the basketball facilities. "I enjoyed it very much."
The visit also included having a chance to talk with his recruiting coach, Georgia Tech assistant coach, Chad Dollar and Georgia Tech head coach, Brian Gregory. "They feel that Tech is the right place for me and they want to see me in a Tech uniform."
Newkirk's offer list now includes a dozen schools. His offer list includes programs like Arizona, Indiana, Tennessee, and North Carolina State. It's clear to Josh that one of the schools is showing him the most interest. "It's Georgia Tech that is recruiting me the hardest."
Education tops the list in things that Josh will be looking for in a school. "How I feel about the coaching staff and how I fit into the system are important to me."
Newkirk doesn't have any visits planned at this time but he intends to take some visits in the next few months.
Until then, Josh will be working out. "We lost in the second round of the State playoffs and so I'm working out and getting ready for the AAU season." He'll be working on his strength and trying to improve his shooting range in those workouts.
When it comes time to make his college choice, Josh will be sitting down with his family to get their advice.
