In fact, Cameron Sutton has only taken one offseason trip up to this point, with that being a recent visit to nearby Atlanta to check out the Georgia Tech program. While he doesn't really have anything to compare it to, Sutton says that he was extremely pleased with his experience on The Flats.
"I went to Georgia Tech a couple of weeks ago," Sutton told GoJackets.com. "It went very well. I got a chance to talk to all of the coaches, including the defensive coordinator, and I liked it a lot."
Being recruited as a defensive back by every school on his list other than Kentucky, who is recruiting him as a wide receiver, Sutton was very pleased about the fact that he was able to spend some time with Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Al Groh.
In addition to his relationship with Coach Groh, Sutton said tat he is also pleased with the relationship that he has begun to develop with his recruiting coach, "Buzz" Preston.
"I've talked to him a lot of times. We have a very good relationship and I look forward to building an even stronger relationship with him down the road."
Sutton, who says that he prefers to play on the defensive side of the ball in college, will have his first opportunity to compare schools when he takes a visit to an SEC school this weekend. He also has plans to travel around to numerous other schools during the summer camp circuit.
"I'm planning to go to either South Carolina or Auburn this weekend. I am planning on going to a lot of other camps over the summer, but the only one that I know off the top of my head is the Vanderbilt camp."
Sutton mentions Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech as the four schools that he talks to the most, but says that doesn't necessarily mean that those schools are his current favorites. He claims that all of the schools recruiting him are on equal ground right now, and that he wants to take more time to evaluate each of his options before making a final decision.
So what is Sutton looking for out of a school?
"The relationship that I have with the coaches and the players that are already on the team and the atmosphere of the school will be the biggest factors in my decision. I will probably make my decision sometime during my senior season."
