Shon Akins Visits Tech With Teammate Kamara

Norcross, Georgia athlete Shon Akins and his teammate Alvin Kamara made the short trip to the Georgia Tech campus Wednesday to watch the second day of spring football practice. Akins also had a chance to see the football facilities on his visit.

The trip to Tech was an enjoyable one for Shon Akins. "I know I enjoyed it and Alvin was smiling and having a good time too."

Akins focused on watching how Tech ran their practice and spent most of his time watching the coaches working with the defensive backs. "It was a good practice and I liked what I saw."

One of the Tech defensive backs stood out to Shon. "Number eight, Louis Young was very impressive at practice. You can tell he is a very good player."

The facilities at Georgia Tech also made an impression on Akins. "They are really awesome. They have some great facilities."

The visit to Tech has made them one of the schools that Akins will seriously consider. "I will seriously consider them if I get an offer." Akins lone offer is from California. He is waiting until he receives more offers before he lists any favorites. "I do know that Georgia Tech is a very good school and if I get an offer from them, they will be in the hunt."

Shon also met with defensive backs coach, Charles Kelly on his visit. "He told me that he would watch me closely and wants me to come back for another practice and the spring game. Akins will be attending Tech's final Junior Day and he also has plans to watch another practice and the spring game. "I want to get to know more about Georgia Tech and the coaches there."

The next trip for Shon will be to the west coast to visit California. He will also be attending Junior Days at Florida State and LSU.

When it comes time to make his college choice, Shon wants to find a good place to play football. I want a place that has good coaches that run a program that develops players."

Akins is looking to make his decision as early as possible. That will depend on when he starts receiving offers. Shon is looking for that to start when schools come to watch him practice in late April and early May. "I feel Georgia Tech will be one of those schools that will offer once they get a chance to see me in practice."

The 5'9"-165 Norcross recruit runs a 4.5 forty feels his strengths are his quickness and his ability to change directions. Akins is being recruited as a defensive back but also doubles as a slot receiver for Norcross. He is looking to get bigger while keeping his speed and quickness.
