We talked to Jimmy Martin's dad to get an update on his son's freshman year and his recruitment.
Schools from the previously mentioned conferences plus Notre Dame were in Maitland this spring to watch him practice. "He was named defensive captain for his play during his freshman year."
Martin had over 100 tackles his freshman season playing linebacker. "He was also able to average about 7.5 yards a carry as a running back." Those stats as a freshman have led to all the interest from schools around the south and midwest.
His strong freshman year led to Martin being named to the Max Preps All-American team. "He was the only freshman named to the Under Armour team."
Jimmy recently attented the Under Armour combine and performed well against older recruits. "He finished in the top five of every category for linebackers and in some events the only ones to beat him where defensive backs or wide receivers."
Martin measure 6'-210 at the combine (up from 5'10"-190). "He benched 185 pounds 20 times and ran a hand held 4.62 forty."
The next camp for Martin will be in Atlanta when he attends the Georgia Tech camp in July. Martin was invited to the camp by Georgia Tech Coach Joe Speed. "Jimmy is looking forward to that camp and was happy when he found out that Georgia Tech requested his transcripts."
While Martin doesn't have to worry about signing day for some time, he has a good idea of when he'll make his decision. "I wouldn't be surprised to see him commit during his junior year." Martin's sister did the same thing when she was being recruited. "She wanted to devote her time in her senior season and Jimmy feels the same way."
