Georgia Tech After Big Time Run Blocker

Mt. Carmel High School Illinois) junior center Nathan Oquendo and his teammate Enoch Smith Jr. visited West Layafette this weekend for the Purdue-Eastern Kentucky game. Nathan is receiving attention from schools in the Midwest as well as one school from the South.

Nathan Oquendo is receiving phone calls, text messages, and messages on Facebook as he begins his junior season. Nathan has also picked up his first offer from Purdue and is receiving interest from schools like Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan. Nathan is not ready to name a favorite. "Most of the schools recruiting me are even."

Georgia Tech is the one non-Midwest school that has been recruiting Nathan. "They love how I play center in the running game." Nathan likes playing in the option offense because it is hard to defend and he likes how it creates mismatches for the defense. "I like blocking in that type of offense."

Nathan's run blocking skill is one of his strengths that is attracting interest from college coaches. "I'm aggressive and I play hard all the time." Oquendo is working on improving his footwork. "Í know if I improve my footwork it will make me a better offensive lineman."

Not all the schools recruiting Oquendo like him as a center. "Actually a lot of the schools are asking me to play defensive tackle. They tell me that I would make a great tackle on defense." Nathan is open to playing on either the offensive or defensive line.

While Oquendo doesn't have any leaders in his recruitment, an offer from Georgia Tech would make them one of Nathan's favorites. "I love their academic program a lot and they have a rich tradition in football." Nathan hopes to major in business or engineering and is aware of Tech's strong academic programs in those fields.
