Commissiong 100% Solid to Georgia Tech

Bishop McNamara, Maryland defensive tackle Darius Commissiong has been a longtime Georgia Tech commit. With the decision to replace his recruiting coach and defensive coordinator (Coach Al Groh), there were questions about his commitment to Georgia Tech.

When he heard that Coach Groh was no longer the defensive coordinator at Tech, Darius considered opening up his recruitment. "I talked with Kevin Robbins about it and we were thinking along the same lines." Darius had some schools call him and he had a few schools in mind that he was going to check out.

His thoughts about checking out those schools didn't last long. "At first I wanted to do so but eventually I never made those plans."

A call from Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson changed those plans. "Coach Johnson called the night it happened and explained why he made the decision and how it was going to affect the team." Following the call, Darius knew that Tech was the place he wanted to be all along.

The decision was made even clearer when Darius received a visit from Tech linebacker coach Joe Speed. "He explained to our coach that Georgia Tech's plans for me and Kevin wouldn't change." Speed let Commissiong and Robbins coach know that the staff would basically be the same with a few minor position coaching changes.

One of those position changes was naming Coach Dave Walkosky as the new defensive line coach. Darius is excited about getting the chance to meet him. "I know from talking with people that really know him that he is very upbeat and relates to his players."

With that in mind, how committed is Darius to Georgia Tech? "I am 100% solid." The only visit Darius will be making will be his official visit to Georgia Tech. "The staff there has really shown me that while Coach Groh is gone, the school, the players, and the rest of the staff are all the same and are really behind the new defensive game plan. I am ready to get to Georgia Tech." Top Stories
