McDowell feels that three of the schools on his list of 18 are recruiting him the hardest. "Florida State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt are really recruiting me very hard right now." In spite of that, Cortez is not ready to name any favorites. "I will probably wait until summer to start thinking about trimming my list of schools and then in the middle of my senior season name a top ten.
The next visit for Cortez will be to Vanderbilt on March 22nd to watch one of their spring practices. Following the Vanderbilt visit, Cortez will travel to Auburn on March 30th. "In April, I will go to Ohio State for a visit on the 6th and then on the 13th I will go to Florida State for their spring game."
The two in-state schools are also in the picture with Cortez. McDowell has talked to Georgia about visiting. They've also talked to him about playing linebacker.
Cortez has also been talking to Georgia Tech coaches Ted Roof and Joe Speed. "They still have me high on their board at safety. Cortez is making plans with the Tech coaches to visit for spring practices or the spring game.
With all the interest he is receiving, McDowell is not close to making a decision. "I am as wide open as you can get." Look for Cortez to make his college choice sometime between the end of his senior season and signing day.
