Durham Already Feels Part of GT Family

Jacksonville cornerback Step Durham and his dad made a return trip to Atlanta to meet with the Georgia Tech coaches. On the visit, Durham became the third commit of the weekend for Georgia Tech. Step's dad talked about the visit and the commit.

"Today was one that we will remember for the rest of our lives." The visit to Tech was the 8th for the Durhams and it was one that made Step know that he really wanted to commit to Tech.

The decision to pull the trigger was twofold. "It was a combination of how Coach (Lamar) Owens handled the entire recruiting process for Georgia Tech and how the welcoming committee was today." The Tech staff came out to greet the Durhams on their arrivial. "They made Step feel like he already was a part of the family at Georgia Tech and they showed Step how much they wanted him there."

There were other factors that also led to Step choosing Tech. "Location was a big factor. He's close to home and his family can see him play." The education he'll receive was also a factor as well as the chance to move up the depth chart. "The atmosphere that we felt from the coaches and players made us feel like we were at home." Finally, the Durhams saw that the coaches care about their players.

Step was still trying to reach the Vanderbilt coaches as we talked to his dad. "Step wants to be professional and upfront to the Vanderbilt coaches before he goes out and talks to any of the recruiting sites or other media about his commitment to Georgia Tech. He feels that is the way to handle it."

The Durhams were impressed with the way Coach Owens handled Step's recruitment. "He did an excellent job during the entire process. I mean he was honest and open with Step and really showed Step everything he could get from Georgia Tech as a student-athlete." Mr. Durham feels that he couldn't have asked for more from Coach Owens. "He is a very good asset for Georgia Tech."

Having the decision made is a relief for the Durhams. "It has been a long road to this point and the entire family is behind Step on his decision and supports him 100%." Step will now concentrate on his final year in high school.
