Simmons Makes The Call

Jacksonville (FL) University Christian defensive end Antonio Simmons committed to Georgia Tech after taking his first visit to see the Yellow Jackets.

Jacksonville (FL) University Christian defensive end Antonio Simmons took his first trip to Georgia Tech this past weekend. He enjoyed the visit so much that he decided to make it his next home.

"I liked the coaches, atmosphere, fan base, student section, and the players," said Simmons. "The whole visit was awesome and I liked everything about it."

"I told Coach (Lamar) Owens that if I liked it enough that I would commit to his school," he added. "That is what happened. It made it an easy decision for me. I am going to play for Georgia Tech."

It was an unofficial visit for Simmons. He will take his official visit to Georgia Tech in late January.

He discussed what the coaches told him while he was on the Yellow Jackets' campus.

"They were excited to see me," Simmons mentioned. "They heard good things about me. They saw my film. They like my game and really wanted me there."

"They said that they like how I'm quick off the ball," he continued. "The coaches say that I'm really good at getting after the quarterback and want me to bring that to Georgia Tech. I'm the last defensive end they are adding to the class."

Simmons models his game after a current Yellow Jacket defensive lineman and was able to spend time with him. It was his favorite part about his visit to see Georgia Tech.

"I look up to Jeremiah Attaochu," Simmons stated. "I really liked talking to him. I look up to him. His style of play is just like mine and I've wanted to be like him."

Simmons had an offer before he visited Georgia Tech. There were many things he liked about the university that helped make his college choice.

"The atmosphere really stood out to me," he explained. "I wanted to play at a school that loves their football team and has a great environment for their games and it was easy to see that Georgia Tech offered that. It's a really good school for academics too. You can get a great education there. I want to study Kinesiology and it's great for that."

Simmons couldn't be happier to have his decision behind him.

"It's really exciting," he said. "I'm very overwhelmed right now." Top Stories
