GT the first for Gessner

2015 Atlanta (GA) Dunwoody defensive end Riley Gessner calls Georgia Tech a top school for him after they sent an offer his way.

2015 Atlanta (GA) Dunwoody defensive end Riley Gessner received his first scholarship offer in the past week. Georgia Tech assistant Joe Speed was by the school and informed Gessner of the news.

He was thrilled to hear that the Yellow Jackets showed their interest in him but was also surprised.

"It feels good," Gessner said about the Georgia Tech offer. "It took me by surprise. At the same time I'm not surprised at all. I've busted my tail to get to where I am today. I'm not even close to being finished."

The combination of athletics and academics appeals to Gessner.

"I look at Georgia Tech as one of my top schools," he told Scout. "It's a school where I can truly push myself to become a great football player. It's also a place that gives me a chance to excel in one of the top academic programs in the nation."

Gessner shared what the Georgia Tech staff has told him thus far.

"They said I come off the ball better than almost all of the guys they were looking at," he mentioned. "They said my speed and aggression were also top-notch."

Gessner plans to visit schools for upcoming junior day trips. He will travel to the northeast in February to check out Boston College.

The junior defensive end talked about being an under the radar recruit as of now.

"I'm very unnoticed," he acknowledged. "It was the first time I had even talked to Georgia Tech. It's a great feeling and it motivates me even more." Top Stories
