South Brunswick High School (NJ) running back Dontae Strickland made a phone call earlier this week that led to Dontae receiving his fourth offer. Dontae made the call on his lunch break and got the news he was waiting to get.
The offer came from Coach Bryan Cook and Georgia Tech. Dontae's coach received a call from Coach Cook earlier in the day and passed the news along to Dontae. "I had been in contact with Tech for over a year now and knowing they had my highlight tape and transcripts, I felt an offer was around the corner." The highlight tape led to the offer from Tech. "I was very happy to hear that. I like Georgia Tech a lot."
Coach Cook let Dontae know that running the same offense as Tech would give him an edge for early playing time. "That is very appealing to me. He also said he loved how I attacked the hole from my running back position and the speed I had was what they are looking for at the B-Back position."
"I love the B-Back position and the fact that Georgia Tech wants me there is huge plus." The fact that Tech is recruiting other players from his area is also a plus in Strickland's eyes. "I want to get down there for a visit and plan on doing so before the summer. I won't let the distance stop me from getting down there."
Rutgers, Virginia, and West Virginia are the three other schools that have offered Strickland. Dontae has made a few visits and is planning others. "I just got back from Penn State which was a pretty good visit." Strickland will visit Virginia on March 1st and also plans to visit Maryland and West Virginia."
Strickland feels that Georgia Tech is the school that is recruiting him the hardest at this time. "They've stayed in contact with me and kept me up to date about Georgia Tech. I have gotten to know Coach Cook a lot here recently and that helps."
Look for Dontae to make his decision sometime during his senior season. "I want to take some official visits, so that may play a role in when I make a decision."
