Looking for the offer

Three-star middle linebacker Tyler Cooksey arrived to the Clemson spring game earlier this month hoping that it would be the day he added an offer from the Tigers.

The Greater Atlanta Christian School junior didn't pick up a Clemson offer that day, but he did talk in-depth with Brent Venables about where things stood.

"Right now, they don't have a scholarship that they're going to be able to offer," Cooksey recently told CUTigers. "They're going to see how things work out. He really wants me and I'm going to keep working hard so I can get an offer from them.

"It sucks that it has to be that way for the moment, but I'm just going to trust that it's going to come through. He just told me how much he really wants me. I know a lot coaches say that, but he was being as genuine as he can.

"It was good talking with him about that. He's passionate about that and wants me to be a Clemson Tiger."

As a whole, Cooksey's visit to Clemson was a good one.

"I had a lot of fun. It was a good environment to be around and [to] kind of see a little bit of the game day action," he said. "I haven't been to a game in a long time, so it was kind of cool to see. I know that's nothing compared to what it normally is, but it was really cool seeing them run down the hill and everything, how much the fans idolize the coaches and players. Their football program has everyone behind it. They get a lot of support. I liked that about it. I really had a good time with the coaches."

Afterwards, "They brought me back to the locker room after the game. A couple of the guys, we talked to the coaches before we left. I enjoyed doing that as well.

"All in all, it was an awesome day and I loved being up there in Tigertown."
