North Gwinnett (GA) receiver Almonzo Brown and his teammates start their spring practices this week. Look for college coaches to make their way to North Gwinnett to get a closer look at Brown.
Almonzo is not ready to name a leader in his recruitment. "I am still pretty much wide open at this point." After schools start visiting, Brown will have a clearer picture regarding his favorites. "I know that Georgia Tech and Georgia State will be visiting. Tennessee and Auburn have also told me that they will be coming to see me." Tennessee has also invited Brown to visit their school.
Georgia Tech Coach Ted Roof has been staying in touch with Brown. "He told me that with my size they want me to be like Calvin (Johnson) or Bay Bay (Thomas)." Other schools like Georgia State like Brown as a slot receiver.
It doesn't matter to Almonzo which of the receiver positions he plays. "I just want to play football. I'll play where ever they want me to line up."
Brown's decision will center around education. "My sister went to Georgia Tech and loved it there. She tells me all the time how great it was there and I know a Georgia Tech degree is very meaningful." Brown hopes to major in Biology and he knows that Tech has a bio-medical degree.
The coaches at North Gwinnett describe Brown as one of the smartest players they've coached. "I feel my knowledge of the game and my position is a big plus. I can run great routes and I know when and how to help out the quarterback."
A timetable for a decision from Brown has not been discussed. "I'll know when it's time. I don't want to set a specific date and then have to change it because everything is not like I want it to be."
