Profile - Demarco Cox
Cox began talking to Georgia Tech Coach Chad Dollar after he made his decision to leave Ole Miss for his final year. Coach Dollar and Demarco formed a good relationship in a short period of time. "He was the reason I got interested in Georgia Tech and then the rest of the staff, the players, and the school made me know Georgia Tech is where I want to finish my college career."
Coach Dollar let Cox know that they were looking for someone that could be a shut down defender in the paint. "Coach (Brian) Gregory showed me his system and I felt I was a great fit." Demarco feels he can come in and fill that need and help get the team get to post season play.
The entire Georgia Tech squad was there to meet Cox when he arrived on campus. Cox and the players hit it off right away. "They were eager to have me on the team."
This is his final year of eligibility and Cox is determined to make himself and the team better. "Coach Gregory said he wanted a player that can come in and play right away and give quality minutes. He wants me to be a major minutes man from the 5 spot." Cox's experience will allow Tech's incoming big men to gain experience without the pressure of having to immediately be major producers.
Demarco has been cleared to play right away and he will arrive on campus in July. "I can't wait." Demarco feels that getting familiar with the other players won't be a problem.
Before he made the decision to play his final year at Tech, Demarco was also considering Marquette. "I felt that Georgia Tech was the better situation and the best system for me." Having his family close enough to see him play was also a consideration for Cox.
The decision to attend Georgia Tech was an easy one for Cox. He already had a relationship with Coach Dollar and the visit showed Demarco that Tech was a great fit. "I feel great about my last year and I'm glad I'm having this chance to show what we can do."
