Profile - Nathan Cottrell
West High School (TN) running back/slot receiver Nathan Cottrell drew the attention of the Georgia Tech staff at their camp Sunday. His performance led to an offer and Nathan giving Tech his commit.
Cottrell also performed well at a recent Nike SPARQ event as well as a camp at Wofford. His score was the highest at the Nike event. Nathan ran a 4.3 at Wofford and Sunday ran a 4.33 at Georgia Tech.
The time caught the attention of Coach Paul Johnson and he invited Nathan and his coaches to his office. Coach Johnson let Cottrell know that he wanted to offer but wouldn't do it without his parents being there. Cotrell got his parents on the phone and they were told that Tech was ready to make a commitment to their son. "I told him that I only lived about 3 hours from Georgia Tech and would like to think on it and he said he understood completely."
Nathan and his coaches spent the night in Atlanta and toured the campus Monday morning. "Once I got a chance to tour the school and see everything they have to offer, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for in a school."
Now that he has committed to Tech, Nathan hasn't even thought about other schools recruiting him. Cottrell knows that he'll have to cross that bridge if and when the time comes. "I am happy to be a Yellow Jacket and don't see myself anywhere else but Georgia Tech."
Cottrell's parents are happy with the decision knowing that he will be close to home and they will also be a short drive away from not only his home games but his ACC away games too.
At 5'10"-185, Nathan has the size and the speed to run the ball. He also feels that he blocks well. He'll continue to work on catching the ball knowing that the A Backs catching the ball is a part of the Tech offense.
